| Southport Glun Club sponsors local pistol and rimfire rifle leagues,
coordinates NRA
sanctioned competitions and is affiliated with the National
Rifle Association, Wisconsin
Rifle and Pistol Association, S.E. Wisconsin Rifle Association,
Lakeside Rifle and Pistol League and the Conservation Club of Kenosha
County. Air gun leagues and competitions are also set up from time
to time.
Leagues are funded separately by and for the participants
in each event. This includes targets, awards and banquets. You do
not have to be a Southport member to participate in any of
the events and all NRA
members are welcome to participate.

| The Sectional is an annual NRA
sanctioned competition and only Southport Gun Club has the appropriate
turning targets in the State to be able to sponsor such an event.
The Sectional is comprised of four shooting matches and a fifth match
for total score aggregate. Three of the matches, Slow, Timed and Rapid-fire
exercises, include two targets each. The fourth match, called a Gallery
or NMC (National Match Course), consists of one each Slow, Timed and
Rapid-fire targets. Ten shots are fired at each target for a total
of 90 rounds.
Competitors must be NRA
classified and shoot against others of the same classification:
Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert and Master. Although some prefer
revolvers, nearly all shooters now use semi-auto pistols and illusion
(red dot) type sites. Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
shooters. Indoor Pistol

| The Club sponsors two 13-week pistol leagues each year, the Winter
League and the Fall League. The Winter League is two National Match
Course galleries, one .22 rimfire and one centerfire. A gallery consists
of 10 rounds each of Slow, Timed and Rapid Fire for a total of 60
rounds each week. (Slow Fire is 10 rounds shot within 10 minutes at
a single target; Timed Fire is two strings of 5 rounds, each shot
within 20 seconds per target; Rapid Fire is two strings of 5 rounds
each shot within 10 seconds per target.) The Winter League begins
competition in January.
The Fall League commences in September and is .22 caliber rimfire
only. It consists of one each of Slow, Timed, Rapid Fire and gallery
match totaling 90 rounds per week.
For both of these leagues, the firing cadence is called by a range
officer, usually a participating club member, as prescribed by NRA
rules. Participants score each other's targets with each target
having a maximum value of 100 points.
Southport generally sponsors two handgun competitions each year.
Both are NRA sanctioned and NRA membership is required for all participants.
Official individual NRA classifications apply for sanctioned competitions;
league and match fees are typically $30 for members and $45 for
non-members.
The January Sectional is a .22 caliber rimfire event. 90 rounds
are shot per Conventional Pistol rules. Team matches are often included
for additional awards. This adds another 30-round gallery, making
the entire event 120 rounds.
Southport Gun Club is also a frequent sponsor of the Wisconsin
State Indoor Pistol Championships. Similar to "1800's",
these shoots include 90 rounds of rimfire and 90 rounds of centerfire.
A perfect score is 1800 points.
Racine's Lakeside Rifle and Pistol League uses our range
on Wednesdays for their .22 caliber pistol league. Lakeside shoots
one gallery per week from September through March. Southport members,
league shooters and all NRA members are welcome to participate.

| Southport sponsors the S.E. Wisconsin Rifle Association
on Thursdays during the fall and winter season. Competitors shoot
here and at the newly improved range in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Match
fees are collected each week.
The course of fire includes 10 rounds each in prone, sitting, kneeling
and standing positions. 10 minutes are allowed in prone and sitting;
15 minutes in kneeling and standing. These shoots are great social
events and usually end in a pizza party at local restaurants.
The team is always looking for new shooters, especially young people,
to join them. A number of universities offer scholarships to Junior
Shooters for recruitment to compete on their collegiate rifle teams.

| Southport Gun Club is ideal for air gun competitions as the range
facilitates hanging targets at the official distance of 10 meters
(33 feet). An air gun pistol match generally scheduled in the winter
months, includes twelve bullseyes and three shots each for a total
of 60 rounds. For the last few years we've hosted Cub Scout Pack 353
for the National Shooting Sports Foundation's BB Gun Challenge. |
