About Southport
Gun Club
"A
place to shoot."
Southport Gun Club, Inc. (aka "Southport Masters") is
a not-for-profit organization. We are a private club that supports
and promotes indoor rifle and handgun shooting sports. We also sponsor
local pistol and rimfire rifle shooting leagues and coordinate NRA
sanctioned competitions. The club was conceived, funded and constructed
in 1954 by local shooters using volunteer labor and donated materials.
In addition to membership fees, the club derives income by sponsoring
NRA sanctioned competitions.
The vitality of the club is directly related to the diversity of
it's members and their enthusiasm toward it's success. We pride
ourselves in being good neighbors and contribute to the community
by running firearms and hunter safety training programs. Members
also provide manpower to manage Sectional and State Championships.
The club conducts business meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of each
month at 7:00 PM. We are located at 7401 75th St., Kenosha, WI.

Membership
Information
New member candidates are sponsored by an existing club member.
Applicants are interviewed by the members present at their first
monthly meeting. Candidates must attend a second meeting for acceptance
and initiation. All members are expected to participate in range
operations and maintenance. For insurance reasons, all members
must also be National Rifle Association members.
Fees- An initiation fee of $70.00 is required to activate
new memberships, which includes the fee for your personal electronic
entry key. Regular dues are currently $15.00 per month. The first
three months must also be paid by new members. Dues are paid on
a quarterly, semiannual or annual basis. Fees are subject to change.
Guests- Members may chaperone guests to the range at their
convenience. However, guests are only allowed two shooting visits
and should seek membership for continued range use. Members are
responsible for the safety and conduct of their guests.
Facilities
Southport Gun Club offers an official 50-foot indoor range with
pneumatically controlled turning targets. The range has 10 firing
lanes with both overhead and floor mounted lights for target illumination.
A computer entry system logs in all range users. Member access is
preempted during scheduled league competitions.
The range is designed for official Conventional Indoor Pistol and
Rimfire (.22 caliber) Rifle competitions. The pistol course of fire
is generally termed "Bullseye". Shooters use one hand
and stand in the "off-hand" position, and although traditionalists
shoot strictly with iron sights, telescopic sights are permitted
in Bullseye. Many advanced shooters use electronic red dot type
sights.
Rifle use (other than air guns) is restricted to .22 cal. rimfire
only. For handguns, .22 caliber rimfire, 25, .32, .380, 38 Special,
38 Super, 9mm, 40 S&W, 44 Special, and 45 calibers may be fired
on this range. Loads are limited to 450 ft/lbs muzzle energy. 10mm,
357 Sig, Casull and all magnum ammo, and any armor piercing, tracer
or explosive bullets are strictly prohibited.
Safety is our first policy at Southport Gun Club. Uncased firearms
must be unloaded with magazines removed and slides locked back or
cylinders open. On the range, there will be no handling of firearms
while anyone is down range. All shooters and spectators must wear
eye and ear protection. All shots must be purposely aimed at a properly
placed paper target.
